Norms

What norms have been established to form a collaborative environment?
  1. Listen carefully to your colleagues and treat them with dignity and respect.
  2. Keep a sense of humor and support each other.
  3. Be mindful of time constraints; stay on the point.
  4. Maintain confidentiality.
  5. Have a problem; bring a solution.

SMART GOALs

What will the goal of this cycle of inquiry be?

3. In order to move our students towards proficient on the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Examination), the Tutorial Support Program will use the CAHSEE Academic Word List to develop students' vocabulary banks and their ability to identify and use these words in context. In addition, we will support other curricula areas by contextualizing vocabulary required within other departments.

2. By the end of third quarter 09/10, the majority (90%) of all IEP's - annuals and triennials will have been completed and disseminated.

1. By the end of first semester 09/10, communication with all stake-holders of students with IEP'S will have increased such that each case carrier completes the strategies and action steps outlined below.

Current Reality:

3. The acquisition of vocabulary at MHS needs to be reviewed and revised to meet the needs of the current students with regard to demographics and the increased demands of testing.

2.Given the system of meeting scheduling used last academic year, there are a number of meetings that fall due in the fourth quarter. It would be more advantageous and efficient for the department to move these meetings forward to the third quarter so that we can focus upon CST's, credit recovery, matriculation and other fourth quarter concerns.

1. Special Education Support Services has successfully launched the ExCEL (RSP) and AAA (SDC) programs. In order to improve the efficiency of these programs, it was decided that increased reciprocal communication was a key component that needed to be further developed.

Effectiveness
1. 08/09 school year saw the introduction of the ExCEL and AAA programs as a replacement for the outdated exclusion model. MHS needed to become more compliant with 'least restrictive environment.'
The case carrier will send a letter of introduction to each of their students' families; teachers working with students with an IEP will receive a notification form of disorders, discrepancies, and necessary variations, accommodations and modifications; and on regular basis, students will be required to complete a Tutorial Support Progress report with input from their teachers and a signature from their parents.
Case carriers, teachers of students with IEP's, families and students
End of first semester 09/10
*Receipt of SELPA paperwork from families and teachers
*Words and notes of appreciation from families, teachers and students
*Receipt of completed and signed Tutorial Support Progress Reports

Enduring Understanding

What is one or more idea that is at the heart of the curriculum?
  1. Remain compliant with the student's IEP
  2. Help the student develop coping skills and replacement behaviors so that self sufficiency can be obtained and maintained.
  3. Track the student through Tutorial Support Progress reports, contact with mainstream teachers, in-class support, and regular counseling and consultation sessions.

Responses to Instruction

What interventions are going to be used if the students do not "get it"?
  1. Use variations, and/or accommodations, and/or modifications. (see list under resources)
  2. Repeat the instruction in a different learning modality
  3. Include strategies that compensate for different processing disorders

Focus on Results

  1. Did you achieve your goal? Why or Why not?
